What You’ll Do

As a Director of Software Engineering, you will be extremely hands-on, leading the development and operation of secure, scalable, and high-performance financial platforms. You’ll drive outcomes that matter—system reliability, customer satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and cost efficiency. You’ll guide cross-functional teams through complex initiatives, ensuring alignment with business goals and fintech best practices.

Engineering Leadership & Delivery

Lead multiple software engineering teams through the full SDLC—design, build, test, deploy, and operate—using Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid methodologies.

Architect and deliver secure, scalable platforms that support high-volume financial transactions and meet regulatory standards.

Lead the release management function to ensure smooth, timely, and issue free code deployments

Application Modernization

Drive platform modernization and consolidation efforts, balancing innovation with stability.

Evaluate existing applications and identify modernization opportunities focused on improving integration, functionality, and scalability

Develop a technology and data architecture roadmap - defining how internal systems should evolve to support both current production needs and future growth

Retool and align existing systems, including production and client-facing tools, to create a unified and efficient infrastructure

Architect modern data structures that allow cross-platform data flow, real-time analytics, and AI integration

Fintech-Specific Strategy & Risk Management

Ensure systems comply with financial regulations (e.g., PCI DSS) and are audit-ready.

Implement cybersecurity best practices and lead proactive risk mitigation strategies.

Integrate fraud detection and secure data transfer mechanisms (e.g., MoveIT SFTP).

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with Product, Compliance, Infrastructure, and Customer Support to align priorities and deliver exceptional member experiences.

Communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure transparency, alignment, and shared understanding of goals and risks.

Operational Excellence

Maximize system uptime and performance while reducing unit cost per transaction.

Lead incident response and root cause analysis for production issues.

Drive continuous improvement through automation, DevSecOps practices, and process optimization.

Team Development & Culture

Build and mentor high-performing teams with deep domain expertise in financial services.

Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation.

Champion diversity of thought and emotional intelligence to bring out the best in your teams.

What you need to have:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; Master’s preferred.

10+ years of experience leading software development teams in a Fortune 500 environment.

Deep expertise in;

Microsoft SQL Server, .NET (C#, ASP, VB), Delphi, Java, C#, WinForm, and MVC architecture.

Windows, Linux (RHEL), and AIX Operating Systems.

DB Platforms including MS Access

Proven track record of delivering secure, compliant, and scalable fintech solutions.

What would be great to have:

Experience with VB6

Experience leading amidst complex stakeholder landscapes.

Expertise utilizing GitLab, ServiceNow, Jira, CyberArk, SailPoint, Workday, and Confluence.

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Highly evolved team skills – evidenced by success in team sports or similar

Calm amidst pressure, tight timelines, and significant workloads

Passion for innovation in financial services, including digital transformation and open banking.

​Important information about this role:

This role is on-site Monday through Friday. Fiserv considers in-person collaboration to be an essential part of this role as in-person office experiences help you with your overall onboarding experience and lead to stronger productivity.

You must currently possess valid and unrestricted U.S. work authorization to be considered for this role.
